Modernize stone fireplace surround

I'd like to lighten up our fireplace surround. I love the look of creamy white stone but how do you achieve it? I'm including photos of the current fireplace, the furnishings selected and a progress shot of the kitchen which sits opposite the fireplace in the open concept main floor. I've included an inspiration photo. If you can't see clearly, our fire is currently half stone on top and travertine mantel and tile on the bottom. Do I replace the bottom tile with stone and then add a German smear to the whole thing? Do I demo the stone and tile and place with a white stone? Do I demo the tile and stone and replace with a large or small format creamy white tile? I'd like to keep the shape so I don't have to replace flooring. I would describe our style as modern industrial with a cozy feel. The blinds will be replaced with something lighter as well. I welcome all feedback on the fireplace surround and other options that might look nice. Thanks!
