  • Mahogany Eastlake style hand caned rocker...
After stripping and sanding this lovely rocker we've almost completed the hand rubbed Danish oil finishing process. All that's left to do is hard wax and buff it before re-weaving the cane seat which will also receive a Danish oil finish coat. I will post the final before and after picture in a couple weeks.
  • Update: 8.6.13 The picture shown now is the final completed project.
  • A bit about Mahogany...
In the mid-eighteenth century, colonial Americans fell in love with the vibrant colors and beautiful surface of mahogany. This exotic wood, imported from the West Indies and Central America, quickly pushed aside indigenous species used in American furniture production. This led to the frantic worldwide exploitation of the species that still exist today.
Because it has been grotesquely over harvested from all parts of the world, I won't buy a new piece of Mahogany furniture but I certainly do enjoy restoring the old ones.
