About Us

Anthony Scarduzio is a head mechanic and plumber and a Zadroga Act lobbyist. A former New York City firefighter, he was one among many responders in the aftermath of the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. He is currently the Lead Mechanic at Castle Plumbing based in Ossining, New York. While working as a New York City firefighter during the 9/11 attacks, Anthony was one of the responders to the World Trade Center. Like many on that fateful day, he courageously assisted in search and rescue operations with no thought to his personal safety. Unfortunately, the incident resulted in Anthony being afflicted with a lung disease, which will affect him for the rest of his life. The incident has encouraged Anthony to help others present on the scene–including fellow firefighters, police officers, and other search and rescue personnel–deal with and recover from the results of the incident. Many of these people now suffer from physical and mental issues, which are both directly and indirectly related to the incident. Anthony Scarduzio therefore took it upon himself to support the reauthorization of the Zadroga Act. The Zadroga Act was authored in 2010, before being enacted by President Barack Obama in 2011. It was named after James Zadroga, a New York City Police Department officer who in 2006 died from the effects of respiratory disease incurred as a result of exposure to toxic material during a series of search and rescue operations at the World Trade Center. The Act mandated the allocation of more than $4 billion to the creation of a program that aims to provide ongoing testing and treatment for those involved in the WTC disaster search, rescue, and relief operations at the site, as well as survivors of the attack.

Services Provided

As part of the Castle Plumbing service team, he displayed exemplary skills, capabilities, and professionalism throughout his 11 years on the job. Anthony was granted the Employee of the Year award at the firm for his outstanding track record of service and excellence.

Areas Served

Anthony received his education at the City University of New York, where he graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering in 2003.

Awards

With the expiration of the Zadroga Act in 2015, Anthony Scarduzio and other supporters lobbied for its reauthorization. As a result of their efforts, Congress reauthorized the Zadroga Act in December, 2015, ensuring continued funding for the survivors of the incident for an additional 75 years.
