When we finally found the piece of property in the area we had dreamed about for decades, we knew exactly who we wanted for the architect. We saved his name for twelve years after seeing some of his work. Now we were ready to contact David Edrington.
During the design process his work was superb. Led by his astute questions and acute listening skills, he elicited much from us about how we live and how we would like to use the space in our home. In addition to broad brush strokes in design, David brought his attention to detail. During our planning sessions David brought to us samples of hardware, hinges, lighting, tile, paint and many other materials. He also brought a range of knowledge about each one that reached down to the molecular level at times. All of this knowledge and experience caused the decision-making to flow smoothly. In the end he designed a building that suits the land beautifully. In this home, that was designed for our personalities and lifestyle, we find a level of comfort and enjoyment that is far beyond our expectation.
During the building of the house David was on site at least weekly. He was available to us and to the builders on a weekly, sometimes daily basis... by phone, by email and on site. His oversight during the construction process saved many a misstep as he had a grasp of the whole picture as well as the daily details. David’s organizational skills were invaluable as our contractor lived in one county, our architect was in another county, and the building site was four hours drive from the county where we lived. Coordination, organization and communication were essential on the job. David was pivotal to the project.
David is a problem solver and a communicator extraordinaire. His communication skills with the myriad of people involved in construction are beyond reproach. From the officials at the county office handling land use permits to the guy laying tile, David speaks to each person in their own language. In addition he is able to win the respect of many diverse subcontractors with his extensive knowledge of building process and materials. Time and again we watched him problem solve with tile-setters, electricians, plasterers, cabinet-builders. All done with a courtesy and respect that engendered good will on the job.
In summary, David Edrington’s professional expertise was evident in every area. Design, engineering, construction, and communication skills. We can not recommend him highly enough.
