Backsplash into recessed kitchen window. Help Needed!

equarto

Ok! Here’s my dilemma! The first picture is our kitchen and the deep recessed window (excuse the mess!). The second picture is the
backsplash that we picked out. The third picture is what made me decide
to take the backsplash all the way up to the ceiling. LOVE LOVE! I am having such a hard wrapping my head around what to do with the
recessed part. Since there is so much wall space there, I think it only
makes sense to bring the backsplash into that nook. The tiles are thick
(handmade) and white on the edges, so we are going to either use bullnose tiles
OR a tile frame in the same color. Anyhow, I cannot figure out if the
ceiling space in that nook should also have tile. My husband thinks yes,
but I’m really not sure! What do you think?

I think you could go either way. I do think its right to tile inside the nook. If it were me I think I would go ahead do the ceiling of the nook as well. I LOVE your tile btw!!

Thanks so much mark_rachel! The picture of the tile was taken from someone else's post. http://ths.gardenweb.com/discussions/2700348/almost-final-reveal

If you do the recessed area, I would do the ceiling also.

Can you post a wide angle pic? I'm not sure about doing the recessed area at all.

This old GW thread has a photo of a tiled recessed window, ceiling or top included. Hope it helps you decide.

    Are the soffits staying?

Yes, soffits are staying. I should clarify that the backsplash are going up to the bottom of the soffits, not to the actual ceiling.

I also think it would look best on the ceiling of the nook. It will add continuity to that whole area IMO. Love the tile too!

For what it's worth, it may depend on where you get your tile, but with some handmade tile, e.g., Fireclay, you can get field tile with glazed edges. That's what I'm doing where a corner piece would feel a bit bulky.

What kind of tile are you using? I really like it!!

If tiling that nook, I'd agree with the others, ceiling too.

Beautiful tile! Actually, it kind of reminds me of Romy's with the variegating colors of greys. Would you be willing to reveal the price per sq/ft? Also the exact color. No worries if not.

I was debating doing a tiled in window. I had trouble fining good examples after much searching. Now yours is a great example! Great job!

@rebunky - the price was $17.78/sf. Each bullnose piece was $9.00 (per tile). We chose the 2 x 8.5 inch tile in "A touch of gray".

@mgmum, here's a few pics. Depending on the light, it sometimes feels like a cool gray and other times it feels warm with some taupe coming through. We chose BM Revere Pewter paint which has a very similar effect.

Just to add onto the last comment, most of the time I see the cool gray coming through if that helps!

Could we see some closeup pictures of the tiled box out window over the sink? I want to do this with my window and I've gotten nothing but stanky side eye from every person I've told but I know in my heart of hearts it would look gooooood!
