Master Bathroom Remodel

Jackie
We moved into our home 3 years ago and touched every room except the master bathroom. Our contractor was a referral from a neighbor and generally very happy. I did most of the design myself with him suggesting adding casing to the doorway and window. Other than the wall tile and some bullnose, most materials came from the big orange box.

Hi Jackie, your remodeled bathroom is beautiful! Can you please explain the rolling door to me? Can it be latched from inside? Can it be unlatched if a child locks themselves in? Asking because in my house, the main bath upstairs has a separate door for the water closet and the door is always in the way when open. Would love a rolling door there but needs to latch so people don't get walked in on.

Thanks lesleycurl, I did forget to mention the vanity is off of Wayfair due to the double 48 being hard to find elsewhere. Had we been able to fit a double 60 the big box stores have some nice vanities including Costco.

Gwen this is a Jeff Lewis door from Home Depot. Unfortunately it doesn't have a latch or locking mechanism which is fine for our purposes. I actually haven't seen any sliding door setup with a lock. Also without the casing there will be bit of a gap and were trying to figure out how to put a very small knob on the bathroom side to help open while it's covering the door frame.

Thanks for answering Jackie. I suspected it wouldn't work in my application but couldn't resist hoping you'd found some solution!

Congrats on new space. It's beautiful.

Gwen, the rolling door is the very popular "barn door". If one wants to add a lock, perhaps a simple hook-in-a-hole up high will work with kids until they learn to knock first. I like a rolling door which is wide and tall enough to cover all the door trim because it gives a modicum of sound control, if you know what I mean

the vanity lighting is what I am looking for. I have the huge mirror over 2 vanities in our m bath and wasn't sure how that lighting would work. I currently have 6 - 25w bulbs over each. some days I dont even turn the lights on

schnable1: I was apprehensive that a 3 bulb fixture (60w equiv LEDs) wouldn't be enough light but we also have a fan with light integrated and 2 recessed lights in the shower, haha! Also the vanity fixture has daylight bulbs so yes turning all of sets of lights are blinding, I can imagine vanity lighting with 6 bulbs!

This fixture is Home Depot btw: https://www.homedepot.com/p/Hampton-Bay-Transitional-3-Light-Brushed-Nickel-Vanity-Light-with-Frosted-Glass-Shades-NB33307/205744557

Your tile and mirror choice is so lovely, as is the detail of the window treatment.

Personally I would want a single vanity in that space, due to counter space, and being able to put two side sconces of a mirror, as it provides better lighting of the face.

Make up storage area is also great.

It is from State College Distributors in Anaheim, CA. I don't see the exact hit on the website but we got the porcelain "Premium Carrara Matte" 12x24, bullnose on sides is same, 3x12.

Wow looks great! It looks a lot like my redo. [Master Bath Remodel[(https://www.houzz.com/discussions/master-bath-remodel-dsvw-vd~5527312?n=14). We also did gray and marble look porcelain tile.

I also got everything from big box stores, I used Lowes. They were great except for delays on some products (I'm still waiting on my LED mirrors). The contractor got the tile from Floor and Decor. Here is the shower tile I used Porcelain polished marble look tile. I love the porcelain, it looks great and is virtually care free, plus very affordable.

Wow, what a change! Looks nice, and you could "change the color" simply with a change of towels and bath rug.

So many people want these "divided baths", saying it allows more people to use the room at once ... but you've illustrated perfectly how the same space is so much more open and usable when it's one space. The whole room has the benefit of the window's natural light, and one nice space is far superior!

I would have gone with one sink and some counterspace -- sure, you can keep your toothbrushes in that nice niche on the side wall, but you have nowhere even to set down a hot curling iron. The cabinet behind you, of course, has loads of storage (love it), but storage that doesn't require twisting around would've been nicer.

Overall, it's a great use of a small space!
