Peerless Transaxle Binding - Solution

Recently took apart, cleaned, and re-greased my Peerless transaxle (model 920-203, from a 12 HP Craftsman, model 502.254982)
With the bolts torqued down, had significant binding, especially in the higher gears.
Troubleshooting pointed to the differential gears.
After checking all the usual causes (make sure they are in and seated correctly, gears meshing properly, etc), we could not find a problem.
Finally, on a "what the hell, why not" hunch we pulled out the bearing blocks, and cleaned all the grease that I had put between the blocks and the inner case of the transaxle.
This turned out to solve the problem. It seems those blocks like to sit flush metal-to-metal in there.
Hope this helps somebody.
