I have it and for me it's a rose that serves a purpose. I like the flowers but they do go by quickly. It is super winter hardy and healthy. The thorns are daunting. Originally I planted it on a busy corner of a bed where people would be careful to avoid bumping into it. But the most useful purpose it serves is that here, at least, deer don't prefer it. I have it planted in a spot where plants have received heavy deer predation in the past. An occasional nibble is all I've gotten so far. Hungry deer will eat almost anything so this is not a sure thing always and everywhere. Since I've planted it, the deer haven't been that hungry here and just want a tasty snack- like green beans.
