Using Pebbles as a Mulch in Succulent Garden

I have a thin strip in front of my home that we are redoing as a rock garden. I want to plant succulents into well-drained soil and then use a decorative pebble on top of this as a mulch layer. Since this area gets full Summer sun exposure in California Zone 9b, do I need to worry about the pebbles warming up the soil too much and potentially harming the roots of plants?

Sun heated pebbles aren't going to hurt plants. If nights are cold as is often the case, heated pebbles could be beneficial.
