Home & Garden Design, Atlanta - Danna Cain, ASLA
This side of the yard was the sunniest and the driest. Here, we raised the beds with soil that drained very fast to create spaces to plant very drought tolerant plants such as yucca, sedums, dianthus, palms & lavender to name a few. Here is also where we used colorful rocks that she desired. The pink rock you see is a mix of quartz and pink quartz. The tiny grey rock is a shale. In the background, you might recognize the flower of astilbe that was planted in the shady wet swale that ran in front of the existing leyland cypress hedge.

Colorful, drought tolerate garden. These palms and tropicals are winter hardy in Atlanta. Textures and colors were carefully chosen. Notice how we echoed the color of the patio tile with the rose quartz gravel in the landscape. Photographer: Danna Cain, Home & Garden Design, Inc.

Lavender blooming Vitex or Chaste Trees flank the entrance to the firplace patio. Spring white blooming Star Magnolias anchor each side of the fireplace and huge white 'Annabelle' hydrangeas have a long blooming period. The 'Morning Light' miscanthus radiates with light as viewed from the kitchen window in the early morning when the sun hits it.

In the landscape design for Insight, primarily succulent plantings are used to create sculptural elements in a high-end residential environment. The repetitive mass plantings of succulents surrounded by pebbles create a contrasting richness of textures between planting and hardscape. The palm tree trunks and the succulents in the planters form sculptural moments in the landscape framing the incredible surrounding views.
