We moved the kitchen to the opposite side of the room to provide a better overall layout with more cabinets and continuous countertop space. Cabinets were placed under clerestory windows, allowing them to act as a light shelf and exponentially increasing natural light in the space. We removed the dropped ceiling to open up the space and create more evenly dispersed natural light.
New appliances were installed, including a separate cooktop and wall oven to accommodate different cooking and baking zones. We implemented a warm Pacific Northwest material pallet with quarter-sawn oak cabinets, and added neutral yet sharp finishes in black, white, and chrome.

Spanish style upholstered banquete seating in kitchen.
A clean, contemporary white palette in this traditional Spanish Style home in Santa Barbara, California. Soft greys, beige, cream colored fabrics, hand knotted rugs and quiet light walls show off the beautiful thick arches between the living room and dining room. Stained wood beams, wrought iron lighting, and carved limestone fireplaces give a soft, comfortable feel for this summer home by the Pacific Ocean. White linen drapes with grass shades give warmth and texture to the great room. The kitchen features glass and white marble mosaic backsplash, white slabs of natural quartzite, and a built in banquet nook. The oak cabinets are lightened by a white wash over the stained wood, and medium brown wood plank flooring througout the home.

The Pumpkin Ridge Passive House is no more expensive to own on a monthly basis than a conventional custom home, when monthly energy costs are considered alongside mortgage, taxes and insurance. Yet the high performance green building will consume 90% less heating energy and offer exceptional comfort and indoor air quality.
The project, designed by Scott Edwards Architecture and built by Hammer & Hand, is one of six homes in the Pacific Northwest to be featured by Northwest ENERGY STAR® as a demonstration super-efficient home.

Overlooking the Puget Sound, this 2,000 sf Pacific Northwest modern home effortlessly opens onto classic water views while optimizing privacy and Southern exposure with a private patio.
Our clients sought a poetically minimalist and practical retirement home infused with rhythm and geometry. With dramatic roof lines and a projecting great room that define its form, the architecture’s simplicity frames its dramatic site to incredible effect while the interior playfully loops the spacious traffic patterns of this 3 bedroom 2.5 bath.

The clients live in a beautiful view home in the northwest hills above Portland, Oregon. Their corridor kitchen had dark “Craftsman” style cabinets with a dark granite tile countertop and “grids” on the two large windows. They wanted was contemporary design that would enhance their enjoyment of the kitchen, as they love to cook and entertain family and friends.
We replaced the two large windows to eliminate the “grids”. Selecting the quartered / figured sycamore veneer wood for the custom cabinets provided the light, sleek, contemporary look they wanted. Better recessed lighting for work tasks, under cabinet lighting and ambient up lighting created a softer feel for the space.
Two undermount stainless steel sinks in Fieldstone solid surface creates work stations for two cooks. The 2” x 4” glass tiles in four glorious shades of aqua to emerald for the full backsplash continued a ribbon of tiles around the kitchen and nook. Radiant floor heating keeps their tile floor warm in the winter months and provides easy maintenance.
Custom curved “floating” glass shelves hold the clients stainless steel pepper mill collection. A custom glass round table built specifically for the nook was the finishing touch to this gourmet kitchen.

This compact, urban backyard was in desperate need of privacy. We created a series of outdoor rooms, privacy screens, and lush plantings all with an Asian-inspired design sense. Elements include a covered outdoor lounge room, sun decks, rock gardens, shade garden, evergreen plant screens, and raised boardwalk to connect the various outdoor spaces. The finished space feels like a true backyard oasis.

The design concept for this project is “Vintage Modern,” meaning the space has the visual charm and appeal of a vintage cottage, but with technologically advanced and sustainable surfaces, modern appliances, and more efficient use of space.
This gallery of images shows the Interior Architectural Design, Interior Design and Kitchen and Bath remodel of home in La Jolla, CA. La Jolla is an upscale coastal region of San Diego known for its undulating hillsides, cool Mediterranean climate, and mixed architectural styles ranging from multi-million dollar ultra-modern homes to original turn of the century bungalows.
This picturesque Victorian home has elements of Tudor style architecture and from the moment you walk through the gate, the residence is overflowing with charm. A cobblestone path leads you to a two story central turret complete with its original arched Douglas Fir door, lion knocker and a quaint pointed slate roof. The turret, sitting at the intersection of the L-shaped footprint of the home, adds a unique curvilinear feature to the exterior and interior architecture. From the other side of the property, just blocks from the ocean, cool Pacific Ocean breezes flow through a colorful garden patio adjacent to the kitchen.

TR2 Architecture
Sited on a forested hillside overlooking the city and Lake, this Northwest style craftsman mountain home has a matching detached Garage with apartment above. Natural landscaping and stamped concrete patios provide nice outdoor living spaces. Cedar siding is complemented by rusted corrugated wainscot and roofing , which help protect the exterior from harsh North Idaho winters. Native materials, timber accents and exposed rafters add to the rustic charm and curb appeal.
