This laundry room was an unfinished utility room - sans laundry! The laundry was in a basement bathroom instead. We moved the gas line and plumbing to make this into a finished laundry room/mud room, as this was the room leading in and out of the garage. The floors are vinyl, meant to look like wood. For some reason, it's more expensive than laminate or even some hardwoods, but it looked surprisingly real and was our best bet for an area that could be prone to getting a lot of water on the floor from washing machine, hot water heater, wet/muddy boots, etc. and was very easy to install. The bench and wall cubbies with hooks are from Target.

In the remodel of this early 1900s home, space was reallocated from the original dark, boxy kitchen and dining room to create a new mudroom, larger kitchen, and brighter dining space. Seating, storage, and coat hooks, all near the home's rear entry, make this home much more family-friendly!

This was a fast-track design-build project which began design in July and ended construction before Christmas. The scope included additions and first and second floor renovations. The house is an early 1900’s gambrel style with painted wood shingle siding and mission style detailing. On the first and second floor we removed previously constructed awkward additions and extended the gambrel style roof to make room for a large kitchen on the first floor and a master bathroom and bedroom on the second floor. We also added two new dormers to match the existing dormers to bring light into the master shower and new bedroom. We refinished the wood floors, repainted all of the walls and trim, added new vintage style light fixtures, and created a new half and kid’s bath. We also added new millwork features to continue the existing level of detail and texture within the house. A wrap-around covered porch with a corner trellis was also added, which provides a perfect opportunity to enjoy the back-yard. A wonderful project!

"The gorgeous crown molding along with decorative glass door inserts and contrasting color detail offers a cool, built-in look with an integrated seating area for removing footwear. Seamlessly blending into the existing space, this well-designed system maintains order in this busy area of home."
"Hanging rods, drawers, doors and shelves transform a cluttered and disordered hall closet or entryway into a space of functional organization allowing people to come and go with ease."

Want to avoid that messy pile of boots and coats on top of coats? Make the most of your entryway by transforming it into a super functional mudroom. Our custom built-ins keep everything neatly organized. Rich mahogany cabinets in russet stain and chrome hooks do it with style. A functional key to any mudroom is being able to visualize and conveniently access your belongings. Coat hooks give you an instant spot to hang your favorite jacket, backpack, or purse. They are especially useful if you do not have a coat closet located near the front door. Angled crown molding, rosettes, base trim and shelving with detailed astragal edging create a sophisticated and classic space you won't want to leave. In order to keep your space clean, the experts say it's best to avoid wearing shoes inside the home. Instead of leaving your footwear piled up by the door, invest in shoe storage with numerous shelves and cubbies. Open shelving is great for items you need to grab on the fly. To further enhance their storage potential incorporate wicker baskets, which can be used for storing pet supplies and seasonal essentials. Wicker baskets are especially handy in the winter as they allow you to quickly grab hats, scarves and gloves as you walk out the door. With added features and accessories, your mudroom can be customized to fit your individual needs and personal style.

Entering from the garage, this mud area is a welcoming transition between the exterior and interior spaces. Since this is located in an open plan family room, the homeowners wanted the built-in cabinets to echo the style in the rest of the house while still providing all the benefits of a mud room.

We cut out the middle box of the cubbies to visually connect this room to the rest of the house. Now people can see who is at the door.
