Open floor plans can be both a blessing & a curse; in your case, creating a cozy L-shaped configuration is well-suited for your space. I would however either swap out the chairs & sofa so that you're not looking @ the wall created by the back of the sofa from the kitchen, or I would add a sofa table behind the sofa which will also give you surface for lighting & display.
On another note, I would change out your window treatments in the following fashion:
Purchase a substantial (2"-3" in diameter) rod that extends beyond the windows by at least 6" in a finish like your woodwork.
Divide the space above your windows into thirds, then mount the new rod along the top third line.
Hang 2 pair of panels that either touch or break @ the floor…the outside pair being opaque & the inside pair being sheer much like the attached picture (not necessarily silk since your room has a casual feel to it).
The visual "weight" that this new height & width provides will be a better-proportioned element therefore balancing out the room.

Thank you so much for your expertise! I realize this is a lot to ask, but can you provide a visual as to what you mean in regards to the sofa and chairs? I do have a sofa table, not shown in my picture, but there's a walkway (foyer) between the couch and sofa table. Thank you thank you!

Check out the photo under my "pink upholstery" idea book. The backs of 2 chairs, even when accompanied by a shared table, are much less of a visual obstacle than that of a sofa. On the other hand, sofa tables are generally rather narrow, so if you slide your current seating arrangement a bit closer to the fireplace, then you'll have room for your table.
If you find the occasional need for extra seating, then the attached photo will help with that as well.

In addition, I'd paint the window frame and fireplace surround a cream color. Remove the dried arrangements. You have an aqua pilllow, if you like that color buy some more pillows to coordinate with it. A blue patterned area rug under the coffee table would jazz up the color scheme. At some point, consider new artwork above the fireplace. Have fun.

I totally agree with Kim Harvey....drapes will make a huge improvement.
